The Best Problems Are the Ones You Never See

In this business there are two kinds of saves. There’s the emergency, where you happen to be standing in the right place at the right time and you’re the one turning the faucet off before it floods the floor. Those make great stories, like the time I caught a burst pipe at a client warehouse on Christmas morning.

But emergencies are not the real work.

The real work is the problem nobody ever sees, because it got caught a month before it would have become an emergency.

That only happens one way: somebody actually walks the building on a regular basis and looks. This is not the same as a cleaning! Cleaning looks for dirt to remove. This is an inspection, and its job is to catch things that the facility manager isn’t looking for yet.

Your carpet’s a few months from looking rough. The grout in the restrooms is starting to look more stained than not. The lobby floor’s due to be stripped and waxed. It’s April and you run a school, so a deep clean needs to be scheduled for early summer.

None of these are dramatic, nick-of-time stories. That’s the whole idea. If these needs get handled early, they’re one more line on a schedule. If not, they become expensive surprises or emergency stories (and not every emergency story has a happy ending).

This is why I do a walkthrough of every building I service, every month. Not one of my cleaners. Me, personally. That way the cleaners can focus on what they do best while I help your facility manager know what to plan for ahead of time.

The other reason I do this? Most other cleaning companies don’t. They show up, they clean, they leave. Nobody’s walking your building with an eye on what’s coming next. So the small stuff compounds quietly until it’s big, and then everyone’s surprised.

It’s not magic and it’s not luck. It’s care that not everyone takes, but we do.

If nobody’s done that kind of walk through your building in a while, I’m happy to set one up with you soon.
